Dreams Come True
Since the age of about 14 I have written song lyrics. It was a massive passion of mine and I have countless books filled with song lyrics. I wanted to do it professionally but couldn’t find anyone to team up with who could create the music. I even wrote a letter to Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber once asking for advice. Kindly he got his PA to reply with some advice directly from him.
When I was in my late teens I hired a company in America to create some music to 2 of my songs as well as vocals. The first song was called “Soul Mate”, the company called Paramount Music Group at that stage only did country and western so I asked if they could make it more like Leanne Rimes and I was quite pleased with what they did. A few years later they had branched out into all genres. I hired them to create music for my song “My Burden”. I loved what they did with that and they made it sound kind of goth rock.
In my mid 20s when I was in my final year of University as my degree project I created a music video to My Burden that represented what the song was about and what it means to me. I will create a separate post about this if you’d like to know why 🙂
Probably about 5 years later I was introduced to the band EnkeliNation (now called Angel Nation) when they supported another band at a gig I went to. About 4 or 5 months later I started having chats with their singer Elina Siirala on Facebook. This developed into really long conversations about anything and everything. In one of our chats I told her about My Burden and sent her the video. She said the lyrics were beautiful and asked if I would like to help her with some lyrics when the time came to write the next album. I of course said yes.
When the time came I have been out of writing lyrics for so long that I really struggled to come up with anything new. I had given up my dream to write lyrics so I just stopped doing it. I came up with a few new ones which I sent her but i also sent her some older songs.
Elina had written a song called “Do It Anyway” which was released as a single last year. She sent me the demo months before and asked me if I recognised the lyrics. Loads of them were mine 😀 I also created the music video to this which was part lyric video. Then when she started sending me demo’s for the album I noticed another one that had loads of my lyrics in. “Wonder Who You Are”. My nearly 20 year dream finally became a reality even after I had given it up. And it really really made it even more awesome that I totally loved the melodies of both songs.
Moral of the story…don’t give up your dreams 😉
